"Foxglove Summer" Walk
Organised by
Henrik Killi
This walk goes through terrain and touches places central in the book "Foxglove Summer" by Ben Aaronovitch We will start at Yarpole, by the parish church of St Leonard, where the standalone belltower's main timbers has been dated to 1192, making it one of the oldest timber-framed structures in England (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarpole) We'll walk from Yarpole up across Bircher Common, allegedly popular for al-fresco trysts in the hippie age. At the top of the ridge we'll hit the Mortimer Trail, then along the ridge to the Croft Ambrey iron age hill fort (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croft_Ambrey). From there downhill again to Croft Castle, then Enmore Field and back to Yarpole. Total length 10.5 km.
